NAME TAGS & I.C.E.
We ask all players to have a name tag hanging outside their bag when at the courts playing. Every name tag should have your ICE (In Case of Emergency) information clearly written. Please write a contact name and phone number on the ICE side of your name tag in case there is an incident and your emergency contact person needs to be called. DRINKING FOUNTAINS There are multiple drinking fountains and beverage vending machines located around the building. Please stay hydrated! SAFE AND SOUND Pickleball equipment is to be stored outside the courts during play. Beverages and neck coolers are not allowed on the hardwood surface AT. ALL. If you bring anything in to the building, please keep it organized, at your chair, and on the pavement. Spilled beverages, dripping towels, and loose equipment creates a less safe and less fun experience for everyone. COMING IN AND GOING OUT There are multiple courts that are near a door or breezeway and we need to be courteous when approaching our court. Be sure to wait until all players in your group are ready to go in or go out before entering or leaving the courts, always wait until the other game has finished their point before entering or leaving, and then do it quickly. INTRODUCTIONS Before you start play, don’t forget to go to the net to greet all players. Introduce yourself and say hi. It’s the welcoming way. PADDLE TAP, BUMP, OR THE WAVE Many players have gone back to the paddle tapping or bump and others do the wave at the end of a game. Your choice. |
SAYING THE SCORE
It is the serving player's responsibility to say the score before serving. At The Big House we teach and encourage all players to say the score before serving and say it loudly enough that your opponents can hear you. It’s a courtesy all players appreciate. Please use the "our score - your score - server #" protocol. CALLING ‘BALL ON’ Player safety is #1 when playing pickleball and calling out loud and clear ‘BALL ON’ to the players on the court next to you is important, very important. If your neighboring court calls out ‘BALL ON’ to you, immediately stop play...replaying the point if the stoppage affected the end of the rally. END OF PLAY BALL RETURN We encourage all players to return the ball to the server by the soft in-air/one-bounce return. This is a courteous way to have the ball returned to the server so the opponents don’t have to chase it down or bend over to pick it up… Swatting the ball requires you bend over so why not pick it up so your opponents don’t have to also? EXPRESSIVE FRUSTRATION It's a sport and sometimes pickleball brings out interesting reactions from us during or after a play. Regarding colorful language, learning replacement words (i.e. Dagnabbit, Dang, Fiddlesticks, Shucks) can be most helpful when venting as swearing is neither appropriate nor appreciated by many. Likewise, please do not throw your paddle or other equipment at the floor, net, walls, people, etc. Any "House Rules" or event guidelines posted on our website or in the facility will supersede any other rules you may be familiar with from elsewhere. If you have a disagreement about a rule, either replay the point or refer to the current USA Pickleball rules book for clarification. If a member of our Big House staff needs to intervene, what they determine will be the final word. |
